Volunteers Needed for Ecology Sign Installation on Nature Trail

Volunteers Needed for Ecology Sign Installation on Nature Trail

Happy Earth Day!

The Open Space Committee is planning to install six Nature Walk signs on the new nature trail behind Pine Grove School (on a town-owned recreation parcel that was part of the Bradstreet Farm purchase) on Saturday, April 27 from 1-3pm. The signs and installation materials have been provided by a generous grant from New England BioLabs. We are so excited to enhance the educational value of the trail and provide classrooms with material for discussion and experiential learning!

We need volunteers to make it happen! During the event, pairs of volunteers will be responsible for digging two post holes (32" deep, 9" wide), hand-mixing and pouring a small amount of cement, installing a pre-built sign on 8' posts, and tamping down the soil around each post. It takes a little bit of muscle, but no experience is necessary. We will have Open Space Committee members on sight to provide instruction and guidance.

Volunteers may bring their own equipment or borrow from us. Helpful equipment includes work gloves, a narrow shovel, post hole digger, prying bar, measuring tape, and a level. We will provide water and snacks!

We ask that folks who are interested in volunteering (or just hearing more details) RSVP so that we can ensure the proper amount of equipment is on hand to complete the tasks! I will also provide instructions for where to park. Please email Alyssa King at alyssaking920@gmail.com or text 978-500-6335.
