Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste may be taken to the Smith Trash & Recycling Station located on 123 Main Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the following days:

Saturday July 20th, 2018
Saturday August 17th, 2018

Note: Preregistration is required through the Health Department (123) 275-6507.

Do Not Bring the Following Items

  • Water based paint such as latex or acrylic are NOT hazardous and can be dried up by pouring into a shallow box and adding kitty litter. When dry, take it to the Transfer Station and dispose as trash.
  • Rechargeable batteries are collected at the Transfer Station/Recycling Center so they are not collected at the very expensive HHW Collection.
  • Alkaline batteries are not hazardous and can be disposed as trash.
  • Used motor oil is collected at the Transfer Station/Recycling Center so it is not collected at the very expensive HHW Collection.
  • Fluorescent tubes and bulbs are collected at the Transfer Station/Recycling Center so they are not collected at the very expensive HHW Collection.
  • Mercury-containing devices such as thermometers, thermostats, button batteries, etc. These are collected regularly at the Recyclng Center.

Unwanted medicines are collected at the Police Station’s medicine lock box and are not accepted for waste collection.

Medical waste is not accepted for HHW collection
