Coastal Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Rowley

Background:

On June 3, 2013 FEMA issued new flood plain maps, planned to go into effect in July 2014. The maps will change flood plain boundaries. As a result, banks holding local mortgages may require more properties to be covered by flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Individual property owners who do not have mortgages may also choose to purchase the insurance. Towns will be required to update local by-laws on flood plain management as a condition for property owners to be eligible to purchase NFIP insurance.   The maps became effective July 2014 and the Town updated the Floodplain District Bylaw to incorporate the new maps.  For more information, please review the Flood Insurance and Flood Map Fact Sheet.
